I'm a self confessed bike addict, they are amazing machines that allow you to go as fast as you can or dare to. On or Off road there is a sense of freedom that grips me. I grew up watching and reading about DH mountain biking after my brother introduced me to it and at the age of 13, he gave me a rigid Giant Boulder MTB, the obsession was born. Now at the age of 32 with 2 children, its nearly been a solid 20 years of progression with the bikes, embracing the new technology that has come our way while retaining the knowledge of the old. From those early days we did all of our own maintenance, hung around the local bike shop picking up on what we should be doing. I absorbed all the information I could and put it to use, but no one informed me at school that being a bicycle mechanic was a possiblity. After working at Newmarket Racecourses for 10 years I decided to get my Cyctech 1 qualification and change career. So in 2014 I started at a local bikeshop that was opening. I gained my Cytech 2 qualification, met some great people and now in 2017 I've started Rich Sherman Performance Servicing. 10 years as cycle technician and now a Cytech Master Technician with Cytech 3 qualifications completed in 2022.
It all started with the love of riding, freedom and being with my brother or friends. As we all grew up, cycling became more and more serious for me starting with racing DH but only a couple of them at Astonhill every year. As the children got older and I realised I was the size of a junior in the senior race field I decided that possibly having to ride uphill as well as down might suit my physical attributes much better, so I did a few and got hooked. I was coached for 2 seasons by performancecoaching.me and in 2016 ended up 8th in the Eastern XC race series Mud Sweat and Gears. All the time working and maintaining my own bikes to achieve this, I have done circuit road races and Enduro MTB races in Wales and in the South of England.
My passion for cycling and the technology within the bicycles themselves is clearly visible to anyone who meets and chats with me. When I service your bike the love that it has been shown by me will be clearly visible and you will be happy in the knowledge that no time has been scrimped on to get your bike right. The important factor to me is your happiness and satisfaction with the service you have received, not the quantity of jobs that I have completed in a week. If parts were necessary I would inform you at the earliest opportunity and allow you the choice to source them yourself (online, etc.) or allow me to source them for you and the cost be added to your invoice. As I do not sell bikes or have any stock of cycling equipment (clothing, lights, accessories, etc.) you can trust that any buying advice is independent and bred out of personal experience, previous customer feedback and knowledge. Add in the flexibility that being mobile provides to you, my qualifications, experience and our competitive pricing, you’ll know you’re getting a 1st class service.
I'm happy to give advice, quote for event support and arrange a service.
